Two days, two improbable Flaming Lips stories.

Yesterday, The Flaming Lips unveiled a wonderful/ridiculous Valentine’s Day compilation, encased in an anatomically faithful chocolate heart. This morning, we get the similarly off-the-wall news that The Flaming Lips and friends are in the process of remaking The Stone Roses’ 1989 indie touchstone The Stone Roses in its entirety.

Last year, Coyne assembled a host of friends and musical associates (including contemporary psych bands New Fumes, Stardeath and White Dwarfs) to remake King Crimson’s 1969 prog opus In The Court Of The Crimson King. At the time, Coyne pitched the record as the first in a series, suggesting that more full-length reinterpretations were in the works. According to The Future Heart, The Stone Roses’ landmark debut is next in line.

An in-studio video, included below, shows bands HOTT MT and New Fumes teaming up on ‘I Am The Resurrection’, HOTT MT and Stardeath collaborating on ‘I Wanna Be Adored’, and New Fumes piecing together ‘Bye Bye Badman’. According to an Instagram image, Channy Leaneagh of Polica might also be contributing to a version of ‘She Bangs The Drums’ with Coyne. Further contributors include Depth & Current and Def Rain.

No release date is set at present. The Flaming Lips release new album The Terror on April 1.
