Stream Apparat’s “weird” soundtrack to Leo Tolstoy’s War And Peace.
Krieg Und Frieden was originally conceived as a companion piece to director Sebastian Hartmann’s stage version of Tolstoy’s 1869 tome. Apparat’s soundtrack, produced with a 30 piece orchestra, was never originally intended for release as a standalone album. After some editing and tinkering, however, the producer has seen fit to issue the record as an Apparat LP proper. Krieg Und Frieden continues the shift away from the dancefloor heralded by 2011’s The Devil’s Walk: the emphasis is on plaintive instrumental passages, with Apparat’s voice and prickly beat programming employed sparingly.
Later this year, Apparat will once again team up with Modeselektor as Moderat for new album II. He can also be heard contributing to Kompakt mainstay DJ Koze’s guest-stacked new record.
Mute will release Krieg Und Frieden on February 15. [via Resident Advisor]
