L.A.’s Gabriel Reyes-Whittaker, aka broken beat/techno producer Gifted And Blessed, has a spiritual new alias. 

Reyes-Whittaker doesn’t like to stick with one name for too long. He’s dropped records as Gifted & Blessed since 2004 for the likes of Sound In Colour and All City, but he’s also spent time as The Abstract Eye, Julian Abelar and GB along the way. Following a disc for Eglo Recordings last Spring (plus a spot on the latest in Kutmah’s great The New Error mix series), he’s recently been looking to the distant past as The Reflektor.

Las Ruinas Mayes– originally released last December on Kyle Hall’s Wild Oats imprint – finds inspiration in the Maya civilization, with each track taking its cue from a different South American spiritual site. Following a run on the beautifully packaged original, the label have announced a wider pressing and  made Las Ruinas Mayes available to stream in full. Vintage electro is pretty muchh the order of the day, although the freewheeling ‘Palenque’ is closer in spirit to Maxmillion Dunbar’s woozy techno for daydreamers. [via As Juno Plus],
