The Tri Angle producer shares an experimental release entitled CLUB WATER DISCUS.
Since his phenomenal 2011 album Wander / Wonder, Balam Acab has been relatively quiet, with the exception of the occasional remix or one-off experiment.
Today, he takes to Facebook to share CLUB WATER DISCUS, which he facetiously describes as “a sound i experimented with in 2012 while spending many months alone in an underwater hotel room in dubai…unofficial, non-indicative of sound of future official releases, just thought i’d share…”
Underwater hotel or not, the tracks share the aqueous nature of Wander / Wonder without much of that album’s tranquility. The first four tracks run a gamut of hip-hop, footwork, techno, and off-kilter sample work, with only the pastoral nature sounds of ‘Dubai Siren’ serving as a break from the bombast.
Download the tracks via Mediafire; the cover art and tracklist are below. As Tiny Mix Tapes reports, Balam Acab recently announced plans to collaborate with singer-songwriter Marissa Nadler, electronic artist Vektroid, and New York rapper Le1f.

Update: Balam Acab has followed up yesterday’s free material with another two experimental releases: VHS SHV and THE RAPE AFTER. “yeah that “EP” or whatever is kinda different and all, next official full length will be more of the pretty ambient vibe ya know,” he tweets. “i’ll always give away stuff that i’m not fully confident in or that’s a bit experimental for the ‘balam acab’ project for free just for fun”
