The Harlem MC takes the viral trap phenomenon for a ride.
This was inevitable: with one foot in rap and the other in electronic music, it was only a matter of time before Azealia Banks rapped over Baauer’s ‘Harlem Shake’.
With ‘Harlem Shake’ turning into this year’s ‘Gangnam Style’, the release is well-timed. However, Banks tweets that this is not an attempt to ride an existing trend: “I actually did my version of “Harlem Shake” months ago and was trying to clear for my album… then this all happened!”
Either way, it’s good to hear new material from the promising rapper, especially since she can’t seem to meet a release date. The Lil Internet-produced single ‘YUNG RAPUNXEL’ that was promised for a release on Tuesday never materialized; February 12 was also originally the release date for her debut album Broke With Expensive Taste.
