Tricksy post hardcore outfit The Dillinger Escape Plan will release their fifth studio LP later this year.

Since 1997’s self-titled debut EP the New Jersey band have been putting out unpredictable, fiercely focused math rock. Although their music is, for the most part, ear-splitting, they’re highly regarded for their labyrinthine song structures and nimble rhythm section work. Although they’ve had numerous line-up transfusions – Mike Patton even had a stint in front of the mic back in the early 2000s – the band’s personnel have been relatively static since 2010’s Option Paralysis, and they’ve also found time to start their own label, Party Smasher.

New record One Of Us Is The Killer is the band’s first album in three years, and will arrive on Party Smasher in 2013. According to lead singer Greg Puciato, the album will be a more convoluted, difficult beast than its predecessor:

“We tried to go out of our way deliberately. Instead of letting the songs write themselves, we would abort them and make them change direction…We fought a lot in the process, which is good because it means we’re doing something right. Now, when I listen to the record, we didn’t even know it was happening. In the middle of it, we were just trying to get it done. I realize we made a big jump now. It doesn’t sound like the other records to me. It sounds like we made some type of movement.”

One Of Us Is The Killer is due soon. The cover art is below, as is a list of the band’s forthcoming tour dates.
