Jack Dunning, aka Hemlock boss Untold, has announced a second label project.

As demonstrated on last year’s Hemlock Recordings: Chapter One compilation, Dunning’s made some seriously smart A&R decisions in his time: James Blake got his big break on the label, Pangaea and Ramadanman both put out key releases on his watch, and Randomer and Joe have both forged strong links with the imprint in recent months.

As Dummy report, Dunning is at the helm of a new label, Pennyroyal. According to Dunning, the label will provide an outlet for “DJ tools, cheap party tricks and relentless noise”. In contrast to Hemlock’s anything-goes mentality, Pennyroyal will limit itself to “rough and ready” techno. Unlike Hemlock, Dunning also has exclusive A&R control over the label.

The first releases will be a pair of EPs from London techno producer J. Tijn. The producer has previously been associated with Turbo, contributing the punishing ‘The Anti Mixdown’ to last year’s New Jack Techno compilation. He’s also remixed Gingy & Bordello and contributed a mix for Jon Convex’s Convex Industries podcast series. The first of his Pennyroryal releases is scheduled for next month, with a follow-up due in April.

On a somewhat bassier tip, future material is also promised from Deep Medi Musik regular Silkie. Dummy are currently hosting a mini-mix featuring unreleased material from both artists; click below to stream.
