Gunplay's armed robbery charges dropped

The Maybach Music madman escapes a possible jail sentence.

Last year, Gunplay (real name Richard Morales Jr.) was charged with both armed robbery and aggravated assault with a firearm for allegedly robbing his accountant. The rapper faced a possible life sentence for the literal gunplay.

The rapper’s promising career is back on track, however, as the state attorney in the case decided to drop the charges; Gunplay delivered the news via Twitter: “I jus gave da State of Florida back a life sentence!! Case dismissed!! S/o to da Bath Salt Boss @rickyrozay #medellin.”

SPIN reached out to Gunplay’s lawyer, Michael Grieco, who confirms that the charges have been dropped after the judge ordered the prosecution to move forward with the case or drop the charges and they declined to proceed. He also confirmed that Gunplay has no outstanding criminal charges.

With the cloud over his head lifted, Gunplay detailed his plans to TMZ: “Today I am grateful and blessed that the case was dismissed … I plan on picking up where I left off with my music and making hits with my upcoming debut album … The first thing I am going to do today is smoke a joint, relax, play video games, and just be with my loved ones.”
