The producer is difficult to pin down on his follow-up to 2011’s Watered Lawn LP.
Raleigh Moncrief’s diverse resume gives you a sense of his scattershot approach to producing: he engineered and co-produced Dirty Projectors’ Bitte Orca, he’s played in Marnie Stern’s band, and he’s worked with Death Grips drummer Zach Hill.
Likewise, the Sacramento-based producer is all over the map on Dusted. The EP ranges from ambient (the back-masked ‘Reflect That’ and hypnagogic ‘Everybody’s At The Mall’), menacing battle anthems (the air horn fixated ‘First Person’ and paranoia-inducing title track), and then something in the middle: the Dirty Projectors-meets-rave climax of ‘On Feedback’.
Stream/download ‘On Feedback’ below. Dusted is available on March 19 via Anticon. Additionally, Moncrief will embark on a ten-date North American tour in support of contemporaries Javelin in March.
