Azealia Banks covers The Strokes' 'Barely Legal'; she's also working with Ariel Pink

The Harlem shit-talker shares an overhauled version of the Is This It standout.

Undeterred by the ‘Harlem Shake’ controversy, Azealia Banks has released a new cover song. Her version of The Strokes’ ‘Barely Legal’ is a total reworking of the song, as producer Lindbergh Palace replaces Brit Popish garage rock with warehouse-sized synth stabs and a 2-step shuffle.

Banks has an affinity for early 2000s indies: earlier in her career, she recorded a similarly reworked version of Interpol’s ‘Slow Hands’. Like that track, this remake finds her singing rather than rapping; stream it below. Banks tweets that her next single, the Lil Internet-produced ‘Yung Rapunxel’, is due out March 26 after being originally slated to arrive on February 12.
