Cash Money in-house producer Mannie Fresh will join forces with Mos Def later in the year.

The New Orleans producer has been YMCMB’s production go-to since the early days, producing for Lil Wayne, Hot Boys and Juvenile. Aside from his work with Birdman as Big Tymers, he’s also made beats for T.I., Gucci Mane, Rick Ross and UGK. Following his work on Cruel Summer‘s ‘The One’, there were rumblings that Fresh would, a la Hudson Mohawke, sign to Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music team as an in-house producer, although the contract never materialised.

As revealed in a string of trailer videos over the last few months, he’s also working on a full-length album project with Mos Def, now primarily trading under the name Yasiin Bey. Speaking to AllHipHop, Fresh has now confirmed that the album is just about finished, and will see the light of day sooner rather than later. The album will be called OMFGOD, will run to 10 tracks, and is currently in the mixing stages. According to Fresh, concision is the order of the day:

“We recorded way more than that. But rather than to [just] have somebody say like, ‘Oh, wow’ – I think a lot of times when you do that you throw away music. So, I just wanna give people like ten bangers and let’s be out.”

A release date has yet to be scheduled.
