Record hoarder/sought-after designer Andy Votel has three very different imprints to his name.
His Finders Keepers reissue label is one of the best contemporary repositories for lesser-known classics, with recent triumphs including a fine compilation of Polish composer Andrzej Korzynski and a quirky primer to Italian-American electronic producer Suzanne Ciani. His long-running Twisted Nerve imprint, meanwhile, has hosted new releases from Badly Drawn Boy, The Gaslamp Killer and Alfie. Then there’s his Pre-Cert Home Entertainment label, an outlet for ersatz horror OSTs and video nasty tributes, co-run with fellow crate-diggers Demdike Stare,
The Applehead Crepaxian Interligne Mixtape first saw release on Pre-Cert Home Entertainment in April 2011 under Votel’s acronymous Tony Deval alias. Originally limited to 90 copies, the tape offered a fantastic collection of 1970s and 1980s library music, Giallo soundtracks and synth-rock sleaze. It’s a treasure trove of weirdo gems, including hard-to-find music from Italian composer Bruno Nicolai and Japanese musician Masahiko Sato. Lesser-known works from Alan Howarth, Klaus Weiss and Jean Michel Jarre also feature, as do a Goblin/Stelvio Cipriani collaboration and a Catholic mass by Pierre Henry.
Head to RBMA Radio to stream the tape.
