Without fanfare, Four Tet has dropped a sneaky stream of ‘For These Times’, his offering to the Non Plus compilation Think and Change.
Typically dusty, the brand new track follows on from Kieran Hebden’s recent flirtations with house music, blending a stripped-down Chicago-esque rhythm with jazzy electric piano and a soulful vocal. It’s clear from the outset that Hebden’s on a Theo Parrish tip with this one, but as usual he manages to add his own spin with hyperactive snare rolls and that lilting melancholy he finds it hard to move away from.
It’s the perfect follow-up to his massively praised KH ‘The Track I’ve Been Playing…‘ 12″ and hopefully hints at even more house material to come.
