You’ve swooned to Mutya Keisha Siobhan’s reading and stepped to R1 Ryders’ take, and now Grimes affiliate Blood Diamonds invites you to sample his reading of Kendrick Lamar’s unlikely drinking anthem.
With 4AD releases, productions for Das Racist and Dominic Lord and a stint in bizarro Kreayshawn-assisted supergroup L$D under his belt, the Kansas City producer (and, at 6’9″, man-mountain) has built himself as a reputation as a colourful, characterful beatmaker. His take on ‘Swimming Pools (Drank)’ takes the original’s main tics – pitch shifted vocals, futureshocked synths, a sense of woozy disorientation – and amplifies them. The result plays like a steroid-enhanced version of the original – a Jagerbomb to T-Minus’s rum and whiskey. [via Dummy]
