Fresh from their ‘Roseland’ collaboration with Four Tet, RocketNumberNine have announced plans for second full-length MeYouWeYou.
The London duo of brothers Ben and Tom Page might have gotten the thumbs up from Thom Yorke, Gilles Peterson and Caribou, but it’s their sophomore full length that will really help us to ascertain whether RocketNumberNine are going to take off.
From the sounds of first taster ‘Rotunda’ things are looking promising; like an African-influenced, dancefloor-primed take on Supersilent’s spacious percussive experiments it’s clear from the outset that the Pages have an intricate and deep musical knowledge. The fusion (and why not?) of distorted hardcore-era bass, clattering drums and high pitched, squealing synth surprisingly works; what might be a total disaster in the wrong hands is made to sound effortless and distinctly fluid.
If RocketNumberNine manage to sustain this kinetic energy throughout the full-length then we should be in for a treat.
MeYouWeYou is out on Smalltown Supersound on May 21.
