Second wave instrumental grime producer Preditah summons the So Solid vampire back from the dead.
In a move that’s made this dismal Monday morning infinitely brighter, the Birmingham producer has paid tribute to So Solid Crew’s 2001 calling card ’21 Seconds’ – the crew’s only No. 1 single, and the London’s underground garage scene biggest breakthrough hit.
Truth told, it’s less a remix than a retouching: Preditah keeps the original’s skeletal drum riddim and synth motif intact, but adds extra weight and polish. The occasional tweak, however, keeps things fresh – see those Todd Edwards-style cut-ups, and the cheeky harpsichord noodling that draws a (hitherto unsuspected) link between So Solid and DFA.
