Drew Kim looks to explore his love of “hip-hop, Dipset, southern mixtape rap and all that good regional stuff.”
While Montreal duo Grown Folk established their rap bona fides by DJing and producing for Bay Area cloud rappers Main Attrakionz, their own material has tended towards subdued house grooves.
Druture will allow Grown Folk’s Drew Kim to experiment with Southern rap circa Mike WiLL and Future. ‘Purple City Fashion Week’ is spaced-out and skittering, while ‘Texas Skresh’ is a widescreen flip of Skream’s ‘Reflections’. Meanwhile, a clip of ‘Live Boroughs’ presents the trance-rap energy of an araabMUZIK beat.
