Fracture’s Astrophonica imprint continue their excursions above 150bpm with a new release from Machinedrum.
Over the last 12 months, Astrophonica have put out a series of limited edition VIP Fracture remixes, apparently designed for the “cosmic dance floors of bass music”, wherever they may be. Previous releases include Fracture’s demented brostep-meets-juke ‘The Limit VIP’ and a fleet-footed footwork edit from Om Unit. The third release in the series arrives courtesy of Berlin-based whizz (and fresh Ninja Tune signing) Machinedrum, and it’s the pick of the bunch.
As per his 2011 high watermark Room(s), Machinedrum’s ‘Clissold VIP’ manages to combine footwork’s kinetic energy with an ear for melody and emotional intensity. BoC synths compete with glitchy drum programming, and the track gleams like a nickel in the sunlight. Things get antsier as the track progresses – check the skittering jungle-referencing middle section – but Machinedrum keeps things accessible rather than aggie throughout. FACT have the first full play of the track; head below to stream.
As per previous instalments, ‘Clissold VIP’ will arrive on 10″ vinyl, and will be limited to 300 copies. The disc will come with a screen printed cover and a hand stamped sleeve. ‘Clissold VIP’ is due on April 1; head here to pre-order the disc.
