Betting giants Paddy Power have seen odds tumble from 12/1 to 7/2 on David Bowie’s acclaimed new album The Next Day winning the Mercury Prize.
It’s still over half a year away, but already there are people certain that the legendary star(man?) will be walking home with the prize. It’s certainly not a bad guess we’d say; not only was the album a good one but it seems to have come at the right time, without any other clear stand-outs in the current list.
Lapping at The Thin White Duke’s heels are indie troopers Foals, whose album Holy Fire is at currently at 14/1, and behind them is Laura Marling’s as-yet-untitled and unreleased LP is at 16/1. It should be worth noting that nominations haven’t even been announced yet so if you fancy a flutter, make sure your fingers and toes are well and truly knotted.
