The Sunday School II cut is more proof why Tremaine Johnson is someone to keep a close eye on right now.
Featuring Flipmode Squad veteran Roc Marciano on the bars, Tree does exactly what he does best with the beat, transforming a HOV-style James Brown sample into something entirely different with surprising ease. SoulTrap might sound like a hokey discriptor but Tree has hit the nail on the head; he’s a long way from his native Chicago’s drill sound, but there’s nothing soft around the edges about Tree’s beats.
The rapper-producer also shared a video that gives us a closer look into the process of the track, and hints at further collaborations with Marciano. There’s no word on an exact date yet for mixtape Sunday School II: When Church Lets Out but with it supposedly due in spring we’re guessing that’s fairly soon. [via Steady Bloggin’]
