The long-awaited Andre 3000/Beyonce team-up is here – albeit in 90 second form.
When The Great Gatsby OST sampler hit the web last week, there were two notable omissions from the stream – Jay-Z’s ‘100$ Bill’, and an interesting-on-paper collaborative cover of Amy Winehouse’s ‘Back To Black’, courtesy of Andre 3000 and Beyonce.
As Hypetrak note, both tracks are now available to sample. Contrary to expectations, the Winehouse cover has a twisted Soft Cell feel, with some Morricone guitar layered over the top. No rapping from Three Stacks unfortunately, but, in contrast to the film’s trailer, it’s a highly promising snippet that favours restraint over excess. ‘100$ Bill’, meanwhile, is a riotous cut with the sort of beat that might have turned up on Habits And Contradictions, and momentarily shows Jay ventriloquizing Lil B’s stop-start flow.
The soundtrack will be released on May 6, with the film due on May 10. Other contributors include The xx, Lana Del Rey and Florence And The Machine.
