The often-controversial streaming site will launch Broadcast later this week.
The Next Web reports that Grooveshark will move into the online radio business with Broadcast, a platform set to launch on April 24. The app will allow users to play radio DJ from their computer: streaming audio files, speaking on-air, and taking suggestions from listeners.
In addition, the service will include real-time chat, analytics, and a request feature that makes Broadcast the “first ever truly democratized radio platform,” according to Grooveshark CEO and co-founder Sam Tarantino. The ad-based service will make Broadcast available through the Web; mobile and tablet integration is to come. However, stations will not be permanently online: stations will cease to exist when the creators log-off.
The Next Web also reports that “Grooveshark is also in talks with record labels to license their content through revenue-sharing deals,” which could be an effort to prevent the legal issues that have plagued the service since its launch. Preview Broadcast now.
