Following the death of Richie Havens earlier this week, here’s more sad news: Parliament-Funkadelic regular Cordell ‘Boogie’ Mosson has passed away aged 60. 

Born and raised in New Jersey, the bassist came up with low-key funk outfit United Soul. Along with bandmate Garry Shider, Mosson was eventually co-opted into Parliament/Funkadelic by George Clinton. Mosson subsequently played with the Parliament-Funkadelic ensemble from 1972 until their dissolution in the early 1980s.

Although less prominent than Bootsy Collins, his playing is present on a string of classic Parliament-Funkadelic discs: One Nation Under A Groove, Mothership Connection and Cosmic Slop are among the records to bear his hand. He also took over as the group’s main on-stage bass player following Collins’ departure from the P-Funk fold, and was also one of the 16 members of the band inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.  Mosson also appeared with the band in their later years, including a spot on their 2011 tour.
