Two rap heavyweights get rebranded.
It’s no secret that legendary NYC producer El-P produced the entirety of Killer Mike’s 2012 full length R.A.P. Music, but now the duo are set to make things official with a full album under their collaborative moniker Run The Jewels. They had already previewed the project with a snippet of ‘Banana Clipper‘ earlier in the month, but now we’re handed something more substantial with brand new track ‘Get It’.
From the sounds of things, El-P has finally wrenched back the confidence to go headfirst back into the kind of dusty, post-apocalyptic beats that made Funcrusher so crucial back in ’96 and that’s no bad look. Both his and Mike’s rhymes are on point, draped over the crumbling synths and distant snares with a snarling poignance. R.A.P. Music was good, but so far this is sounding even better.
The duo have promised an album in June on Fools Gold, and have announced an extensive US tour in support. We’ll see you there.
