Hype Williams’ Dean Blunt is back with The Redeemer – a complex, surprising, emotionally vulnerable delight of a record.
Less impressionistic and more song-based than last year’s The Narcissist II, the album sees Blunt turning his hand to folk, psych-pop and balladry. This being Blunt, however, it’s far from easy listening: there’s a complex narrative about a troubled man in a troubled relationship, mediated through Blunt’s unassuming croon and some deeply strange interludes. We’re heavily into it – and, after heading here, you can be too. [via Pitchfork]
