New York state of mind.
Mr. Mothafuckin’ eXquire‘s latest is a notably throwback moment for the unpredictable rapper, bringing to mind the jazz-inflected rap anthems of the mid 90s, but unlike other New York revivalists eXquire’s take on the form doesn’t feel laboured or anal. Rather ‘Noble Drew Ali’ comes across as a case of eXquire taking a closer look at the rap backdrop of his city, and putting his spin on it.
Produced by North Carolina producer Constrobuz, it’s the lead track from the rapper’s forthcoming “imminent” new mixtape Kismet, which will be his first since unexpectedly signing with Universal last year – we’re all ears.
