Teach, don’t kill my vibe.

As part of a high school attendance challenge launched by education non-profit Get Schooled, Kendrick Lamar (and 106 and Park’s Shorty and Paigion) visited Mount Pleasant High School in Providence, Rhode Island.

Watch a video of Kendrick’s visit below; Compton’s great hope spoke with students, rapped a bit, and did the usual meet-and-greet activities. “My teachers were great positive influences in my life. My middle school English teacher was probably the reason I became a rapper,” said Lamar. “He used to encourage me to write poetry and would challenge me, which helped me improve my vocabulary and made me enjoy writing.”

Get Schooled works to improve high school graduation rates and empower more students to go to and succeed in college. The Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City rapper was recently sat down with soul queen Erykah Badu for Interview Magazine; FACT spoke with him last year. [via Okayplayer]

Update: Kendrick has premiered the video for Good Kid standout ‘Bitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe’. The clip finds him in all-white Diddy-mode, baptized in liquor by “Pastor” Mike Epps, and celebrating a funeral (“Death to Molly,” as the title card proclaims).
