The Warped-signed duo share the latest cut from their forthcoming album.
The first half of the song sounds like an outtake from James Blake’s self-titled album, albeit with Rinse crooner King Krule rapping over it. The song’s chaotic crescendo filters and amplifies Krule’s baritone as layers of jazzy percussion collide and percolate.
“The new stuff is a lot more free than the songs we’ve done before, in terms of composition,” the duo’s Dom Maker has explained. “It’s still entirely produced on a computer, but the drums and percussion are much more live in their feel, in rhythm and in flow. In terms of the actual sound… it’s quite a bit bigger sounding that what we’ve done before.”
Stream ‘You Took Your Time’ below. It is one of two collaborations with King Krule on Mount Kimbie’s Cold Spring Fault Less Youth, due for release on May 28 via Warp. Mount Kimbie is currently touring with Holy Other.
