The London label has emerged from hibernation.
While the World Unknown parties have gone from strength to strength over the past year, recently moving from their Brixton home to an outpost in Hackney Wick, the vinyl-only label has lain dormant since the release of the ‘Shields/Lovebites’ 12″ by Emile Strunz and Last Waltz a year ago.
Now Andy Blake (also of the no-frills, all-analogue Cave Paintings imprint) and Joe Hart (who runs the sporadic Bodyhammer night) have two releases on the way.
Hart and YoungTEE of the In Plain Sight label provide ‘Invisible Man’ on one side of WU7, while Blake goes it alone on the flip with ‘Haunted Mechanism’.
WU8 comprises ‘22.05’ by Black Merlin, who has previously appeared on Andrew Weatherall’s Bird Scarer label, and ‘Swung’ by newcomer White Lodge. Both are out 26 June [via JunoPlus].
The next World Unknown party is an all-dayer in Brixton this Sunday. Details here.
