Grime collides with jazz on the debut LP from Deep Medi boy Swindle.
Swindle has long marked himself out as one of the breezier producers operating under the Butterz umbrella, dabbling in funk and soul on releases for Planet Mu and Rwina. As the title suggests, Long Live The Jazz doesn’t hide his interest in swing and fusion, although there’s a heavy dose of boogiefunk in the mix as well. As you’d expect from a release on Mala‘s label, there’s no shortage of low-end wobble and lurching rhythms. MC/producer Footsie makes a brief appearance on ‘Ignition’, and go-to vocalist Terri Walker appears on the Slugabed-meets-Coki jam ‘Running Cold’.
