Rapper Fat Joe has been sentenced to four months in prison and fined $15,000 for failing to file tax returns on more than $3.3 million earned between 2007 and 2010.
The 42-year-old rapper, real name Joseph Cartegena, had faced up to two years in prison after pleading guilty to the charges in December, but the magistrate gave him credit for paying $718,000 in back taxes prior to his sentencing and for his charity work.
His lawyers had asked for probation in light of the three-month prison sentence handed to Lauryn Hill last month on similar tax charges.
Last year Joe released ‘Pride N Joy’, a single that managed to squeeze Kanye, Miguel, Jadakiss, Mos Def, DJ Khaled, Roscoe Dash and Busta Rhymes onto the credits – not that you could really pick them out.
