Brooklyn upstart Joey Bada$$ is no stranger to Daniel Dumile, having borrowed Metal Fingers beats for his breakthrough 1999 mixtape. Now, as he writes on Soundcloud, his career has taken leaps and bounds: “Last year, eye [sic] was getting used DOOM beats from youtube. A year later and everything comes back full circle.”

On ‘Amethyst Rockstar’ (not to be confused with the Saul Williams’ album of the same name), Bada$$ doesn’t just use a DOOM beat — he borrows the veteran’s whole schtick, from the slurred intro, to the dense and dynamic flow; there’s even a bit of off-kilter singing. Stream/download the song below, which is set to appear on the Summer Knights mixtape, due out July 1.
