The shadowy techno innovator returns.
BNJMN‘s 2011 debut album Plastic World was a clear highlight that year, and carved out a niche for the UK producer that set him amongst the most sought-after young techno upstarts in the game. Since then Ben Thomas has hardly been quiet, releasing a slew of material on a variety of labels, but his return to the Rush Hour imprint makes the Hummingbird EP an exciting prospect.
Inspired by the hummingbirds that gave the record its name, Thomas said “I was really interested in how hummingbirds have much faster wing speeds to other birds, so they can hover and fly slowly,” he added “This seemed to tie in with some
ideas I’d been playing around with, to create tracks that are fast and accelerated, but could also sound slow.”
Taking inspiration from nature is hardly anything new (hello Boards of Canada), but we’re sure BNJMN will put his unique spin on it – he’s not coming alone either, Legowelt and Xosar will be turning up for a remix under their brand new Xamiga moniker.
Hummingbird EP will be released on July 8 via Rush Hour. [via Juno Plus]
