Pixies announce world tour, announce Kim Deal replacement

Pixies are hitting the road once again.

The alt.rock titans have found themselves back in the spotlight in recent weeks: first Kim Deal departed the band, and last week saw the premiere of their first single in nine years, ‘Bagboy’. As Pitchfork report, the band have now announced the first leg of a sizeable world tour.

Part one of the tour features dates across Europe, including stop-offs in Ireland and the UK. The band have also revealed who will be stepping into Deal’s shoes for the tour: Kim Shattuck of 1990s punk outfit The Muffs, will be on bass/’Gigantic’ duty. A glut of new material is also promised for the tour, which rather undermines last Friday’s statement that there are no plans for a new Pixies record.

Pixies, naturally, featured in FACT’s hot-off-the-press rundown of the 100 Best Albums of the 1980s. The ‘Bagboy’ video is below.
