Jay-Z visits the actual Magna Carta, discusses social justice with the Dean of Salisbury

Keen amateur constitutional historian Jay-Z has taken some time out of his current UK stop-off to visit the document Magna Carta Holy Grail takes its name from.

As NME report, the rapper visited Salisbury Cathedral this weekend to look at the 1215 Magna Carta, one of four extant copies of the historic text. The rapper – who announced the Magna Carta Holy Grail artwork by sneaking an iPad into the Cathedral earlier this month – took an hour to meet with the Dean of Salisbury, The Very Reverend June Osbourne, who said the following about the trip:

“Jay-Z kept the visit quiet because he didn’t want it to become a big publicity stunt. He travelled down from London in a small group in his classic Aston Martin. Jay was genuinely touched to see his album near to the real-life Magna Carta in the chapter house. He took the occasion seriously and felt honoured to be there. He chatted to the Dean and posed for a few pictures with fans when they asked.”

The pair also “discussed the work we seek to do here to further the cause of social justice”. On the topic of “justice”: following Jay-Z’s insights into his major fallout with Timbaland, the latter party has confirmed that he’s currently recording a song as an apology to the rapper. Speaking to Revolt TV, Timbaland revealed that new track ‘Sorry’ is a way of burying the hatchet:

“My verse I’m saying like, ‘We copped the same Range. We talked to the same dames. Same things, same lane. Now we see each other, don’t even speak…Accept my apology’…It’s like a Tupac kinda shit…It’s deep. It’s pretty deep.” [via HipHopDX]

Magna Carta Holy Grail is currently No. 1 in the UK and the US.
