Ann Arbor’s Ghostly International have just released the third and last single from Shigeto’s forthcoming No Better Time Than Now album, the lush and hypnotic ‘Olivia’.
No Better Time Than Now will be Shigeto‘s third album for Ghostly International, and his most personal yet built as it is from life experiences that the young producer and drummer has molded into what is arguably also his strongest work yet.
Explaining the motivation behind the album, Shigeto said: “2012 was a powerful year for me. I released my second LP; I played nearly 180 shows in 360 days; I made the move back home from Brooklyn, NY to Detroit, MI; a six-year relationship of mine came to an end and I made it 30 years on the planet.”
All this is clearly reflected across the three singles already out: ‘Detroit pt.1’, ‘Ringleader’ and now ‘Olivia’. This latest is the most reflective of the songs unveiled so far, its melodies floating over a percussive patchwork and its bass warm and welcoming. Shigeto wrote every song and played all the instruments on the album, continuing to show he is much more than the beat kid his debut led many to believe. Something anyone who has seen him live will likely testify to.
Talking of beats, the producer has also released a video for first single ‘Detroit Pt.1′, one of the album’s more beat/hip hop-heavy leaning tracks, in which he casually performs the track while being driven around for In The Woods’ Carsick series. See below for that.
No Better Time Than Now is released on Ghostly International August 20 on LP, CD and digital with artwork by Michael Cina. Following the release Shigeto will embark on one of his trademark lenghty tours of the United States with Ghostly’s Heathered Pearls and Nitemoves opening. See below for full tour info.
Finally, there is also a hashtag competition to win two tickets to a show and a merch pack. Fans are invited to use the #nobettertime hashtag across Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and Vine to make a personal statement of “when there is no better time than now for you to do something in your life”. Shigeto will pick the most inspiring entry and announce the winner on the album’s release day. All entries to the competition will be collected on his site too.
