The Record Store Day counterpart will take place on September 7.
First announced last month, the brand-expanding Cassette Store Day will see a string of exclusive releases and special events in LA, Tokyo, New York and London. Pitchfork has details on some of the planned releases, which include Animal Collective’s Sung Tongs, the Flaming Lips’ The Terror, At the Drive-In’s Relationship of Command and Acrobatic Tenement, and JJ DOOM’s Keys to the Kuffs Butter Edition. The developing list is available on the event’s website.
The curious event (name one “cassette store”) has already seen a bit of controversy: Glasgow-based shop Volcanic Tongue claimed to have come up with the idea last year. For more on the cassette circuit, check out Digitalis Recordings boss Brad Rose’s monthly column, Caught On Tape.
