The sparse track borrows from — but doesn’t sample — the Pixies’ ‘Where Is My Mind?’.
On ‘PrimeTime’, Monáe and Miguel trade verses over a drum track and a bit of wailing guitar solo. While originally said to include a sample of the Pixies classic, Pitchfork reports that it isn’t the case. However, if that’s not an interpolation of the song’s ghostly cooing, it certainly is inspired by it.
Stream it below, and check out Monáe’s upcoming tour dates. The Electric Lady is due out on September 10 and also features Prince, Erykah Badu, Solange, and Esperanza Spalding.
