Earplugs and pom-poms at the ready – Sleigh Bells are back on the scene.
The New York duo specialise in smacked-out cheerleader pop with a nasty streak: 2010 debut Treats buried sing-song melodies under mantle layers of distortion, and 2011’s comparatively nuanced Reign Of Terror still spent the majority of its running time peaking into the red. Between Alexis Krauss hooky vocals and Derek Miller’s bull-in-a-china-shop production, they’ve swiftly struck on a formula that’s cheap, dumb – but undeniably good fun.
In October, Lucky Number will release the band’s third studio album, Bitter Rivals. Produced by Miller, the album will feature 10 new tracks. The video for Dickens-quoting debut single ‘Bitter Rivals’, directed by the band themselves, is available to watch below, and sees Krauss pulling some nimble girl-band moves. And headbanging. Lots of headbanging.
Bitter Rivals is due on October 7.
