The rapper / noted design enthusiast is working with the man behind iconic designs for Joy Division, New Order, and more.
Peter Saville detailed the collaboration in a conversation with journalist Paul Morley at London’s Global Design Forum. “We’re looking at ways of writing ‘Kanye West’,” Saville told Dezeen Magazine. “What does ‘Kanye’ and ‘Kanye West’ look like written down?”
He also described the collaboration as “very casual,” and not a commission to design something specific, like a logo. However, West and Saville spoke about Adolphe Mouron Cassandre’s iconic logo for Yves Saint Laurent: “He said to me: ‘You’re Cassandre’… He wants a YSL.”
Earlier this year, Kanye name-dropped Saville in his extensive New York Times interview. Previously, the designer explained the genesis of his cover for Joy Division’s Unknown Pleasures for New York’s Visualized conference.
