A clutch of ancient swing numbers have got a retouch from a squad of familiar beatmakers.
The Sounds From The Onyx EP has been commissioned by the team behind HBO serial Boardwalk Empire, and features edits of Prohibition-era jazz standards by a string of veteran hip-hop producers. Well-practised sample-flipper Pete Rock takes on Vince Giordano & The Nighthawks’ ‘Sugarfoot Stomp’, and Om’Mas Keith turns out a dreamy rework of Ethel Waters’ ‘One Sweet Letter From You’. Other remixes comes from Jazzy Jeff, Shafiq Husayn, Tall Black Guy, and Jayceeoh & B-Sides.
