The singer/activist/controversy magnet will release his Autobiography in two weeks.

Last month, Morrissey allegedly scrapped plans for his autobiography due to a “last-minute content disagreement” with Penguin Books. While the publisher initially denied that a deal existed, they later confirmed that distribution was in place for the UK and Europe.

What looked (at the time) to be some PR face-saving turns out to be true: Penguin Classics will release Autobiography on October 17, in the UK and Europe. Penguin Classics is usually the home for classic literature, but Morrissey pushed for the “Classic” designation.

“I can’t see why not – a contemporary Penguin Classic,” he told BBC Radio 4 previously. “When you consider what really hits print these days and when you look at the autobiographies and how they are sold, most of it is appalling. It’s a publishing event, not a literary event.”

As always, semi-official fansite True To You has the news, with a press blurb that sounds like it was written by Moz himself: “Most pop stars have to be dead before they reach the iconic status that Morrissey has reached in his lifetime.”
