ADE 2013: the parties you have to attend at this weekend's Amsterdam Dance Event

ADE: a veritable bee-hive of live shows, boat parties, talks and PRs offering coffee meetings to anybody who’ll listen. No wonder that when you talk about it, there’s often a sense of confusion as to what the Amsterdam Dance Event actually is.

At this point, more than anything, ADE is simply a big deal. With over 300 events spread over five days in Amsterdam, it offers an unparalleled combination of presentations, film screenings, pop-up events, live shows and more, centered around a program of daytime conferences for industry veterans and aspiring artists alike – oh, and for the Armin Van Buuren fans amongst you, there’s also the annual ceremony for DJ Mag‘s top 100 DJs. Let’s face it though: the best thing about ADE is the parties. Over the next few pages, we’ll pick out some of our recommended raves from this weekend’s schedule.

Wednesday October 16

Colors @ Trouw
More info

Trouw is home to several of ADE 2013’s strongest line-ups, and they kick off the long weekend on Wednesday with a line-up that centres around Julio Bashmore’s Broadwalk label: Funkineven, Kowton and Bashmore himself play.

Cadenza & Planet E @ Awakenings
More info

Two of techno’s giants come together with Ibiza kingpin Luciano and Detroit MVP Carl Craig going back to back for three hours. Support comes from Stacey Pullen back to back with Mirko Loco, Andrea Oliva and Nic Fanciulli.

Dubfire presents @ Elementenstraat
More info

Another one for the techno heads, with Dubfire recruiting Audion (a.k.a. Matthew Dear), Oliver Huntemann, Miss Kittin, Tiga and more for an all-nighter – 8am closing time for the caners.

Thursday October 17

The Wisdom of the Glove @ Scheepsbouwloods
More info

Cubes, Prisms and The Wisdom of the Glove – techno simply wouldn’t be techno without inanimate objects touted as high-concept art. Luckily, this Guy Gerber-presented event features Four Tet (live), recent FACT mixer DJ Koze, Martin Buttrich and Gerber himself to ensure that the music at least stays grounded.

FACT @ De Ameland (Boat Party)
More info

Nothing to do with us, this – instead it’s the other FACT, from Spain, presenting a boat party with Redshape, recent Hotflush recruits Dense & Pika and more. Both acts should be spot on, and if you want to climb on and make some people walk the plank then by all means be our guest.

Backstage x ZeeZout @ Chicago Social Club
More info

Three of the weekend’s finest Brits abroad – Huxley, Dusky and George Fitzgerald – all in one place. Expect garage beats, deep house basslines and a lot of fun.

Friday October 18

Clone x Delsin x Rush Hour @ Trouw
More info

Now this is a line-up. Some of The Netherlands’ best – Xosar, Gerd, Tom Trago and Alden Tyrell – share a bill with Bulgaria’s mighty KiNK, who’ll be playing live.

Numbers x Lockdown @ Paradiso
More info

Few throw a good party like Numbers, and with Jackmaster, Rustie, Martyn, Benji B and more on the bill here, their ADE weekend rave should be business as usual.

Dekmantel @ MC Theater / North Sea Jazz Club
More info

Er, and this isn’t a bad line-up either. Spread across three rooms, Dekmantel present a showcase of Hessle Audio-and-related (Joy Orbison, Midland and the three Hessle founders in Room 1), L.I.E.S. (Steve Summers and Ron Morelli in Room 2) and Generally Great Music (Omar-S, KK/MM and Antony Naples in Room 3).

Dekmantel @ MC Theater / North Sea Jazz Club
More info

It’s not quite Dekmantal’s Friday night line-up (what is?) but any bill with Space Dimension Controller, Nina Kraviz, Moodymann, Bicep, Vakula and Juju & Jordash is not to be sniffed at.

These Guys @ Rhone Warehouse
More info

A fair way out of town, but sets from Jimmy Edgar, TR//ER (Tessela and Truss) and Objekt back to back with Call Super (for four hours) await the ambitious.

The superb Roman Flugel headlines, with support from residents Gilles Smith and James Priestley, October, John Daly and more.

Roger Sanchez presents Stealth! @ Escape Club
More info

Sanchez goes back to back with Masters at Work original Kenny Dope all night long – let’s face it, this is going to be cheesy as hell but what better way to close a weekend abroad?
