M.I.A. reveals the full version of her new single.
‘Y.A.L.A.’, which stands for ‘You Always Live Again’ – a different take on the ubiquitous YOLO catchphrase – turns out to be a cacophonous, hyper-percussive rainbow blast of skipping samples that harks back to the political noise-mongering of M.I.A.’s early material.
Her long-delayed new album Matangi is finally set for release on November 5, and features R&B creep The Weeknd on ‘Exodus’ and ‘Sexodus’, plus production from Timbaland protege Danja, ‘Niggas In Paris’ beatmaker Hit-Boy, and French party-starter Surkin.
Meanwhile the controversy-baiting singer is being sued by the NFL for £1.5 million for flipping her middle finger during last year’s Super Bowl performance. The American football body claims she damaged their “wholesomeness” – M.I.A. has branded the lawsuit “ridiculous”.
‘Y.A.L.A’ is available for download today with an album pre-order. Hear it below:
