The haphazard journey of the M.I.A documentary from script to screen continues. 

Since 2012, director Steve Loveridge has been working on an in-depth film documenting the life and times of Ms. Arulpragasam, featuring contributions from luminaries like Kanye West, Jimmy Iovine, Spike Jonze and Switch. Come July, the wheels seemed to have tumbled off the project in spectacular fashion: after M.I.A’s label Roc Nation got the heebie-jeebies when Loveridge upped a trailer clip of the film, Loveridge abruptly left the project, writing that he “really couldn’t give a flying fuck. Count me out. Would rather die than work on this.” M.I.A seemed to side with Loveridge, directing people to the clip through her Twitter account.

The Hollywood Reporter are claiming that the troubled film is now back on track. Not-for-profit documentary organisation BRITDOC and M.I.A’s Yala Films have signed up to produce the project; Loveridge, meanwhile, is back on board. No release date has been set at present.
