Manchester club Sankeys to reopen

The original Manchester edition of club Sankeys will re-open next year.

Bar two years of inactivity from 1988-2000, Sankeys has run in Manchester’s Northern Quarter since the 1990s. This April, owner Dave Vincent announced that the club would “close indefinitely”, so that the Sankeys brand could focus on Ibiza, where they’ve run a club for the last three years.

“I want our Ibiza project to be the best club in the world”, Vincent explained, “just like what we have achieved previously in Manchester, as I get the feeling this could be our summer. But I need my production and staff from Manchester to come to Ibiza with me to achieve this goal and therefore both clubs cannot be open at the same time. Who knows when we will be back in Manchester, or if we ever will be back, or what comes next in this great city I love.” He later spoke to FACT about the closure, referring to it as “heartbreaking”.

Today, less than a month after the opening of Sankeys’ New York club, the brand has announced [via Twitter] that the Manchester spot will be reopening. No more details than that, for now, but we’re sure more will emerge soon.
