Pussy Riot member Nadya Tolokonnikova hospitalised in Siberia following prison transfer

Incarcerated Pussy Riot member Nadya Tolokonnikova has reportedly been taken to a hospital in the Siberian region of Krasnoyarsk, near the prison she was moved to earlier this month.

According to her husband Peter Verzilov, the hospitalisation is connected to the hunger strike she embarked on in September at a prison colony in Mordovia where she had been serving her sentence.

“She was in good condition. She said her conditions were okay,” Verzilov told Rolling Stone. “She’s not sick right now, she’s just having procedures and tests related to the hunger strike.”

He also said Tolokonnikova’s transfer to the Siberian prison took three weeks, during which time she was kept in strict isolation. Her husband was not informed of her wellbeing or her location during the transfer.

Verzilov said that a source in the prison service had told him Tolokonnikova may serve her full-sentence at the hospital in Krasnoyarsk.

Two members of Pussy Riot are serving two-year jail sentences after being convicted of “hooliganism motivated by religious hatred” following a protest performance in Moscow’s largest cathedral in February 2012.
