Sankeys details Christmas grand re-opening parties with Darius Syrossian, Mosca, Andrea Oliva, Lee Burridge and more

The storied club rises from the flames with a two-day opening party this month.

Less than a month after the opening of Sankeys’ New York club at Halloween, the brand announced that its Manchester spot – which closed its doors with an air of finality back in April – would in fact be reopening in January 2014.

Ahead of the grand opening in January, Sankeys have now announced a ‘Rise of the Phoenix’ opening weekend taking place on December 20 and 21.

The Friday line-up includes Darius Syrossian, Audiofly, Mosca and Winter Son, while Saturday will see sets from Andrea Oliva, Lee Burridge and more.

Bar two years of inactivity around the turn of the millennium, Sankeys has been operating in Manchester’s Northern Quarter since the 1990s. Owner Dave Vincent announced in April that the club would “close indefinitely” so that the Sankeys brand could focus on its Ibiza space. Vincent spoke to FACT about the closure at the time, saying, “Who knows when we will be back in Manchester, or if we ever will be back, or what comes next in this great city I love.”

Originally dubbed Sankeys Soap Club, the venue opened in a former soap factory in the early ’90s and eventually became one the most high-profile dance venues in the north of England. Sankeys Soap shut in 2006 and morphed into the 1000-capacity Sankeys, a sparkly super-club known for its LED lighting rig and the illuminated Spektrum room. [via Data Transmission]
