Hear two previously unreleased Chance The Rapper mixtapes dating back to 2009

Redditors chance on early material.

Fans of Chicago’s player-of-the-year Chance The Rapper will have already copped his ace Acid Rap mixtape and perhaps his previous effort, 10 Day, but now a little more has emerged from the archive to tide you over until his next release (which we’ve heard nothing about so far).

Thanks to the hive mind of Reddit, two previously unreleased mixtapes dating back to 2009 – when Chance was just 16 – have surfaced online, giving us a glimpse into his faltering baby steps as a rapper. Back then Chance was rapping under the name Chano with childhood friend J-emcee as part of the hip-hop duo Instrumentality.

Titled Good Enough and Back To School Pack, they see Chance testing out his rhymes over some seriously emo ‘beats’ – Coldplay’s ‘In My Place’, Adele’s ‘Hometown Glory’ and Death Cab For Cutie’s ‘Technicolor Girls’, to name a few. Elsewhere you’ll find bolshier soul samples that recall his hero Kanye West.

Underlining how far Chance has come in 2013, earlier this week he unveiled his collaboration with teen megastar Justin Bieber, the surprisingly enjoyable ‘Confidence’. [via Highbrow Hip Hop]
