The Child of Lov has died aged 26, according to reports

Shocking and deeply sad news: rising Belgian soul singer The Child Of Lov has died, aged only 26.

The singer (born Martijn William Zimri Teerlinck) built a substantial amount of buzz with a string of anonymous 2012 Soundcloud uploads – ‘Heal (Demo)’, ‘Give Me’, and ‘Rotisserie’ among them – offering a wobbly psychedelic take on classic soul. His self-titled debut LP arrived on Domino offshoot Double Six this summer, and featured involvement from Damon Albarn and DOOM. He’s had a number of industry nods, including the NME‘s Philip Hall Radar Award for an artist expected to go on to big things.

NME are reporting that the singer has passed away following complications after surgery. The sad news follows his decision to cancel all his scheduled live dates back in May. Further details of his death are currently hard to come by; more as and when we have it.
